Gaylord Texan Getaway Weekend

Gaylord Texan Getaway WeekendIf you’re looking for a getaway that’s not far away, check out the Gaylord Texan resort in Grapevine. With over 1,500 rooms, four restaurants, and two pools, the resort offers a weekend escape less than an hours drive away.

The Gaylord also offers a luxury spa and a fitness center. On the property, but separate from the resort, is the Glass Cactus nightclub, which has live music and DJ’s for dancing the night away. Off property, but nearby, are golf courses and the Paradise Springs water park.

Everything in the resort’s main building is under a spacious domed glass atrium, which is beautifully landscaped and offering paved walkways that lead you to the restaurants and other attractions of the resort. The atrium is air conditioned, and offers free WiFi in the public areas.

The Gaylord is more than a resort. It’s a convention and conference center with 62 meeting rooms and over 400-thousand square feet of conference space. The business crowd keeps the resort full during the week, but on weekends rooms open up for that getaway you’ve been thinking about. Keep your eye out for discounted room rates on the weekend by checking with the Gaylord website.

The restaurants in the atrium include a steakhouse, Italian, Mexican cantina, and sports bar and grill. The prices are a little steep, but the food is spectacular. On our visit we had lunch and breakfast at the cantina, and dinner at the Zeppole Italian restaurant.

The Glass Cactus is a short, free, shuttle from the resort. There are DJ’s and dance bands on the weekends, and four bars offering your favorite spirits. The club opens at 8 p.m., and shows begin at 9.

For those who want to get wet and wild, the Paradise Springs water park is open Memorial Day to Labor Day, and offers fun for kids and adults alike. It is reserved exclusively for resort guests. Pools at the resort include a large outdoor pool and spa, and a smaller indoor lap pool. The outdoor pool includes a bar, lounges and shaded cabanas. If you want to make an even bigger splash, Lake Grapevine is close by.

The Gaylord is the official hotel for the Dallas Cowboys, and a short commute to AT&T Stadium in Arlington for the game. The Cowboy’s Golf Club is just off property, and several other golf courses are nearby. Not far from the resort is shopping at the Grapevine Mills Mall, and Southlake’s shopping village.
