Adam Napper has been a personal trainer for 15 years. His goal was always to be the best personal trainer in Dallas. But a year or so ago he started having a dream of opening his own fitness center. Sometimes dreams can come true.
In October, Adam and some business partners opened “Circuit 31 Fitness” in Allen. The name comes from the structure of the program whereby a person works on a circuit of ten exercise stations, each station lasts 3 minutes. The goal is to give you a complete work out in 31 minutes.
“We roughly followed the way the old ‘Curves’ fitness was set up,” says Adam. “We took what we liked (from Curves), amped it up and made it our own.”
Since then Adam is no stranger to the exercise business. For ten years he was the in-house trainer at the Allen Natatorium. He also contracted with an Allen weight loss doctor to be the referral trainer for patients. “I had two clients lose over 100 pounds last year,” Adam claims.
At Circuit 31 Adam handles nearly all the clients that come through the door. As a startup, he’s the only trainer on staff at the moment. He gets help from his wife, Hannah.
The fee structure at Circuit 31 is setup where a person on the premium membership plan gets a $31 rebate each month that they work out ten times or more. “We want to reward them for showing up, not punish them for not working out.”
Circuit 31 is not a gym in the typical understanding of the name. It’s a structured program, with an instructor guiding clients through their routines. Each station has a video to show the client how to do the workout properly, and the instructor is always there to help.
Over the years Adam has developed a loyal following from clients at the Natatorium and the doctor referrals. Some of them have already signed up at Circuit 31. Even for a startup, Adam says the new business is ahead of where they envisioned it when they started out.
Based on the 30-minute workout plans at places like “Curves” and “9 Round Fitness”, Adam is confident his program will be successful. “There is more proof that the quick, convenient workout works.”
