For a getaway that’s not far away, fun can be as close as Frisco. We’ve made several trips to the Westin Stonebriar Country Club and Hotel, and had a great time. Located off Legacy, just north of 121, the Westin is close to everything.
For golfers, the Country Club has two 18-hole championship courses. Ask the hotel about their special stay and play weekend golf packages. It includes green fees and breakfast at the hotel’s Legacy Grill. More about the grill later.
The Westin is just a short drive from the trendy shopping and dining hub of Legacy West in Plano. Dine at top restaurants like Bob’s Steakhouse, Season’s 52, and Capitol Grill. The large Stonebriar Mall in Frisco is just five minutes away.
Not far up the Dallas Parkway takes you to the new, robust Star entertainment and dining complex, home to the Dallas Cowboys. There are also plenty of top restaurants in the Star area.
The Westin Hotel offers a romantic getaway package that includes room service breakfast and a bottle of champagne. We recommend that you pass on the room service and actually go downstairs to the Legacy Grill buffet. The grill features some of the best omelets anywhere. They keep the buffet fresh all morning, and the food and service are excellent.
For a special evening treat, try the shrimp cocktail in the bar. The shrimp are jumbos, and the cocktail sauce is to die for. Pair that with a nice Malbec from the bar, and you have the makings of a nice little appetizer before heading out to Legacy West for dinner.
The Westin features a large, heated, outdoor pool and a heated whirlpool spa. The pool and spa are located on the shady north side of the hotel, so even on warm, sunny days in the winter it can be a little chilly. But don’t wimp out. The whirlpool is kept at a comfortable 104 degrees.
The hotel also has a large fitness center for your morning workout.
Texas residents get a 20% discount on room rates Thursday through the weekend. You can even bring Fido. The hotel allows dogs up to 40 pounds, but they don’t have scales at check-in and the staff is known to be lenient. Check with the front desk for details on the pet policy.
Southern Frisco and northwest Plano is a major dining, shopping and getaway destination. Something new is happening all the time. It’s short drive from anywhere in Far North Dallas, Collin and Denton counties, and even Tarrant County is a quick trip on the Sam Rayburn Tollway. Check it out. Have fun.
