Time To Get Those Bikes Out

Springtime’s warmer weather brings out the biking urge in just about everybody. From roadies, to cruisers, to off-road adrenaline junkies. North Texas has room for all.

For road bike fans, there are several options in the area. Our article on bike clubs will lead you to the Plano Bicycle Association and the Shawnee Trail Cycling Club in Frisco. They offer weekend rides, as do Cadence Cycles in McKinney, and Richardson Bike Mart in Richardson and Frisco.

If you’re a “blood and mud” fan of off-road riding, check out DORBA (Dallas Off Road Bicycle Association). DORBA builds and maintains numerous mountain biking trails in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. One of the most popular is at Erwin Park in McKinney. Another is located at Northwest Community Park in Frisco.

Just about all Texas state parks offer off-road trails. Follow this link to the Biking section of the state park website, and scroll down for a list of all the parks and trails in North Texas (Prairie and Lakes section).

On or off road, remember to wear a helmet, get a good pair of polarized sunglasses, stay hydrated, and wear sunblock. No matter whether you have fat or skinny tires, have fun out there.
